Staff: Benjamin NeelyExecutive Director
Benjamin Neely joined the Berks History Center as the Executive Director in 2019. With a rich background in historical societies, he dedicated 15 years to the Adams County Historical Society in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where he held various positions, including Collections Manager, Director of Historical Collections, and Executive Director. Ben was also the lead historian during the development of the Seminary Ridge Museum in Gettysburg. With a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the State University of New York at Oswego and a master’s degree in Applied History from Shippensburg University, he brings a diverse educational foundation to his role where he oversees BHC’s strategic direction and operations. He has been actively involved in Pennsylvania’s museum community, serving on numerous boards and committees, and is a past president of PA Museums, Pennsylvania’s statewide museum association. Ben enjoys early American history but has concentrated much of his research on the American Civil War. His favorite object in BHC’s collection is a Civil War draft drum used to select names of Berks County men for the war.
