Member's Treasures Exhibit
Saturday April 10, 2010
HSBC, 940 Centre Ave., Reading, PA

April 10 was the grand opening of the Member's Treasures exhibit. If you missed the opening you have plenty of time left to see the wide range of artifacts from Berks County's history from more than three dozen of our members.

Come see the wonderful selection of treasures, from rare maps to artwork and items made by a number of local businesses, most, if not all, never on public display before.

Exhibit is open until February of 2011.


"Mannerbacks," Reading's Master Silversmiths 1785-1870
Saturday May 1, 2010
HSBC, 940 Centre Ave., Reading, PA

If you missed the grand opening on May 1, you still have plenty of time to come see the beautiful exhibit on the Mannerback's Silversmiths. The exhibit features over 40 artifacts on loan from 10 museums and 10 private collectors.

This is an extremely beautiful and scholarly exhibit on a subject never addressed by HSBC, yet one that has earned a reputation of high esteem around the world among those knowledgeable in the field.

You won't want to miss it!! Exhibit will be on display until December 31, 2010.

Historical Society of Berks County and Henry Janssen Library

The HSBC and HJL will close at 2:00 on Friday, September 2. We will also be closed Saturday, September 4. HSBC and the Henry Janssen Library will reopen on Tuesday, September 7 at 9:00 AM.

"The End: Authorship, Nostalgia and the Beatles"

Speaker, Kenneth Womack, Ph.D., Commonwealth for The PA Humanities Council & Professor of English Penn State, Altoona, PA will present an audio and video oriented discussion. The story of the Beatles vividly comes to life with the help of Beatles scholar, Kenneth Womack, who traces the group's creative arc.

Refreshments served at 9:30am. The program begins at 10:00am. Admission fee for non-members is $5.00/adult, $4.00/sr. citizens and $3.00/children under age 17. Members donation for refreshments is $1.00.

Please check out the glass case in the front lobby - Beatles memoriablia will be on display.

Schwenkfelder Migration and the Pietistic Movement

Speaker, Dr. Allen Viebmeyer, Associate Director of Research at the Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center will be here to tell the story of the Schwenkfelder origins and their immigration and settlement in southeastern PA from 1734 to the present day in a slide presentation that will include some of the religious beliefs that distinguish the Schwenkfelders from other colonial German immigrant Protestant groups.

Refreshments served at 9:30am with program beginning at 10:00am.
